PopUpCop™ 2.0 by EdenSoft™ Awarded CNET.com Editors' Choice.
Berkeley, CA (August 14, 2002) - CNET.com, The source for computing and technology™, has awarded EdenSoft's PopUpCop 2.0 Editors' Choice, and has listed PopUpCop 2.0 amongst their Editor's Top 5 security apps. CNET.com wrote, "Anyone who uses Internet Explorer and wants to remove annoying [popup] advertising should get PopUpCop."
PopUpCop blocks unsolicited popup windows and other annoying Web site behaviors without interfering with normal Web browsing. By blocking these annoying behaviors, PopUpCop helps restore tranquility to the Web.
Version 2.0 of PopUpCop expands its feature set with XGuard™, a tool designed to discourage accidental download of "adware" and "spyware" by supplementing the inadequate "Security Warning" dialog that a user sees when a Web site tries to automatically install an ActiveX control. XGuard offers the user the option to never trust software signed by a particular software publisher, as well as tools designed to help the user find out more information about the publisher.
Version 2.0 also includes features designed to help the user ensure their privacy when browsing the World Wide Web. PopUpCop helps the user to manage "cookies", those little text files that Web sites use to track the user's browsing habits. It can also delete downloaded files, browsing history, typed URL's, recent documents, along with its own log of blocked popups when the user exits the browser.
PopUpCop is an Internet Explorer toolbar add-in. After installation, it occupies a small space on the user's toolbar. It safely co-exists with other toolbar add-ins.
PopUpCop 2.0 is distributed as shareware, with a 30 day free evaluation period. It is available for download directly from EdenSoft at http://www.popupcop.com/. The retail price of registration for a single copy is US$19.95. Dealer and distributor inquiries are invited.
